St. John Beach of the Month
Reef Bay is the water east of Fish Bay on the other side of Ditleff Point. Reef Bay Beach can be reached by boat or alternatively by connecting to the Reef Bay Trail either on Centerline Road or by hiking across the west from Little Lameshur. This long stretch of sand rarely has anyone on it, except for those hiking down from the Sugar Mill and Petroglyph ruins.
Looking for some moderate exercise, followed by a swim, and a ride back to the villa with a few cold drinks – get a ride to the top head of the Reef Bay Trail (or leave a vehicle there), hike down the trail, then hire Yellow Bird Charters to come to pick you up, cold drinks and snacks in the cooler, for a sunset cruise that puts you back in Chocolate. St. John Trail of the Month: Reef Bay Trail
This is a strenuous hike that will take you past some of the oldest and tallest trees on the island. Danish sugar plantation ruins, stone walls from cattle grazing, and ancient rock carvings left behind by the pre-Colombian Taino can be found along the trail. During the rainy season, the waterfall can be spectacular.
This backcountry trail is steep in places, uneven and rocky, and can be slippery even when dry –you’ll need sturdy, closed-toe shoes and a sure foot. Take plenty of water, some snacks and a lunch, and a hat. Mosquito repellent is a good idea, too, and a swimsuit if you’d like to take a dip in the ocean down at the beach at the end of the trail. From the trailhead to the beach is about three miles one way. Plan on about three and one-half hours from trailhead to valley floor; it will take longer hiking the 900-foot elevation gain on the way up and out.

The mission of Island Health and Wellness Center is to provide quality, compassionate, and affordable healthcare to adults, children, and families of all ages on St. John in need of primary, preventive, and educational medical services. Their vision is to be a model primary care office, in which patients receive quality care that is individualized for their personal healthcare needs. Each patient will be treated respectfully and given the time and opportunity to ask questions and fully understand the treatment plans and goals they are trying to attain. Patients will be educated about routine screenings and preventive health services. This will allow patients to be involved in the clinical decisions about their health care and encourage them to take responsibility for healthy life choices through medical care, education, and community programs.
